However, it would appear as though their fears have now been realised – with Jose Mourinho confirming (via the BBC) that the defender is set to miss the rest of the season through injury.

This has come as a big blow to Man Utd, especially with such an important run of fixtures coming their way over the next few weeks. Of course, a vital Europa League clash against Celta Vigo is set to take place on Thursday, and Shaw’s absence will certainly make an impact. The Premier League is also not to be forgotten by Mourinho, so he will have to find solutions domestically too.

Of course, Shaw has had a tough season under Mourinho – with a lack of form, fitness and, indeed, managerial trust really putting the breaks on what looked likely to be an impressive season for the Englishman. That being said, his talent is clear – and he will certainly be missed.
