LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT HALT APPROVAL OF NEW FILLING STATIONS

Lagos State government yesterday said it has suspended approval for the building of filling stations in the state, saying nobody would be allowed to construct new stations until inventory of existing ones had been taken across the state.
This was even as the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) said it had served a total of 5,499 structures with Contravention and Stop Work Notices, while the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) said it had received 242 and approved 174 planning permits in the state.
New Telegraph gathered that the decision on the suspension of approval for filling stations was part of the moves to ensure safety of residents and give room for proper physical planning in the state.
The Lagos Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) had earlier raised the alarm that some underground water in Alimosho area was contaminated with petrochemical substances. But speaking during his ministry’s briefing, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Wasiu Anifiwoshe, said there would be no further development of filling stations in the state for now.
“For now, there will be no filling stations until we take inventory of the ones we have in the state. It affects every nooks and crannies of the state. We have suspended approval for filling stations for now. No permit for filling station for now,” he said.
The commissioner added that Mile 12 Market would still be relocated in spite of the delay in the planned relocation, saying that work was ongoing at the Imota site of the new market. He said the Cable Car Project was still on course as the state executive council had approved the commencement of the project. Anifowoshe also said work was ongoing at Agbowa, where Oko-Baba saw millers would be relocated to.
