SEVEN IN POLICE NET OVER ATTEMPT ON SENATOR MELAYE

The Kogi State Police Command have arrested seven persons in connection with the assassination attempt on Senator Dino Melaye (APC- Kogi West) at his country home Aiyetoro-Gbede last Saturday.
Melaye escaped unhurt after gunmen invaded his house shooting sporadically as they destroyed two vehicles and riddled his building with bullets.
A source close to the Kogi State Police Command yesterday disclosed that a black jeep suspected to have been used for the operation, alongside a cache of amunition was found at the Odokoro home of the administrator of Ijumu Local Government, Taofiq Isa, by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
The source added that the suspects were arrested at different locations, while the black jeep and the ammunition have been impounded by the state Police Command.
It was further gathered that the security agents are still ater other suspects, while the state Police Command have ordered that the administrator of Ijumu LG report at the command.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. William Aya while reacting to the report said investigation was ongoing.
In the aftermath of the attack, Isa, who doubles as the state ALGON chairman was specifically accused by Melaye of being the mastermind of the attempt on his life.
He however denied any involvement, saying he had been busy on day attending to his sick wife as well as supervising the APC re-registration exercise in the area, and urged the federal lawmaker to prove the allegation against him.
“I’ve never been a violent man. My running battle with Dino, if any is because I have asked him to stop villifying the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
“Let him (Dino) prove it. I lost my uncle a week ago, I’m still attending to my sick wife and busy supervising the APC re-registration programs. I’m a democrat and law abiding. I challenge Dino to prove his case” , he had said.
