Tragedy struck Sunday morning at Alare Compound of Aremo in the Ibadan North East Local Government Area of Ibadan, theOyo State capital, when a pregnant woman in her late 20s and her two-year-old son got electrocuted.
The deceased, identified as Labisi, whose husband’s rented apartment is behind popular Bembow Hospital in the area, was said to have met her untimely death in the morning while spreading her clothes on a line in her compound. As she was hit by the electric shock, she screamed and her little toddler who heard. the scream ran to her, only to be electrocuted also.
According to a neighbour in the area, who preferred not to be named, the bad news got to him around 9.00 a.m and it was discovered that unknown to the deceased, an electric wire had been connected from a hotel close by to the wire on which she usually spread her clothes.
“I learnt that one of the operators of the hotel had connected a wire to the house with a bulb affixed to generate light for people passing through the area in the night. The wire which was connected to the wire that is being used to spread clothes in the house must have peeled somewhere and the woman did not know. We learnt that immediate she was electrocuted and fell down, she screamed and her little son ran to her. While cuddling her, he also got electrocuted immediately,” the source disclosed.
New Telegraph learnt that the deceased was four months pregnant and had a senior wife in the same apartment. She was a full time housewife as people in the area said that she was always at home before the ugly incident happened.
