A barman, Wale Ayo, 25, who was alleged to have forcefully had anal sex with a 10-year-old boy was on Friday arraigned before a Tinubu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos Island. Ayo who is facing a one-count charge of rape, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecutor, Insp. Nurudeen Thomas told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 2, at about 12: 00 p.m. at Jakande Estate, Lagos. He said that the accused, a bartender, bundled the 10-year-old into a store at the back of the bar and forcefully had anal sex with him. “The boy’s mother sent him to the bar to greet his uncle who came to visit them but went to the bar to drink with his friends.” “Unknown to the boy that his uncle had left the bar, the accused lied to him that his uncle was at the back of the bar.” “The accused bundled him into the store, locked the door and forcefully had anal sex with him.” “The boy’s mother noticed that the boy could not walk well and was limping on his arrival from the bar and asked what was wrong.” “He told his mother what happened to him which led to the arrest of the accused,” the prosecutor said. He said the offence contravened Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, which prescribes life imprisonment for offenders. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kikelomo Ayeye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum. She said the accused must provide two responsible sureties who must be civil servants not below grade level 15. The chief magistrate admonished parents and guardians to be cautious of where they send their under-aged children and wards. She then adjourned the case till July 12, for hearing.
