The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited about a lot of their young stars, but one young attacking midfielder is attracting a lot of interest in particular…
Charly Musonda has been in and around the Chelsea setup for several years now, having impressed the Chelsea brass enough to warrant a move from Anderlecht in 2012. Since that point, the Belgian has really delivered – quickly emerging as one of Chelsea’s most talented young players – and our landlord thinks that it is time that he gets a chance in the Chelsea first team.
After all, there has never been a better time to introduce him into the fold. The Blues are going to have to really ramp up their squad depth this summer ahead of a return to the Champions League, leaving Conte with a bit of a job on his hands. However, instead of spending big money abroad, perhaps Musonda might be worth a punt. After all, during his first year with Real Betis, he really did well – proving that he is good enough to play at a high level. Quick, technical and a real goal, he did not look out of place amongst players far above his age range. Sure his second season wasn’t as good, but that was more down to circumstance over anything else.
Offensively, Chelsea aren’t exactly blessed with depth, with Hazard, Pedro and Willian currently Conte’s only real options. Given that Hazard is set to miss the start of the season through injury, that definitely leaves a gap open for Musonda to impress.
It would be a bold move from Conte, but why should he spend millions signing a top European talent – when Musonda is eager to impress at the club for free?
